INDIVIDUAL OUTREACH SERVICES
Seniors in our community want to stay vital and active in their homes as long as possible. Sometimes, in order to do this safely, an individual may need the help of Jewish Senior Services. Our Director of Admissions and Community Outreach can provide counseling for seniors, as well as referrals for many services, such as mental health counseling, transportation, 24-hour medical alert systems and Meals on Wheels.

The goal of the Community Outreach program is to empower seniors to remain in their communities as long as possible, and to provide options when independence becomes more challenging. Sometimes, a crisis occurs and we must visit with individuals and families in the hospital, or respond to a distant family member’s request to look in on their loved one who is alone and there is cause for concern. Assistance with housing placement for seniors is available, and identifying the appropriate type and location options are explored.
GROUP PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
The Director of Activities and Outreach Programs offers a multitude of group opportunities in which community seniors may participate. Whether it is a museum trip, a luncheon to hear a guest speaker or an exercise program tailored toward older adults, seniors are encouraged to attend. Transportation, a consistent and continuing issue for seniors, is available at a nominal charge, as well as a hot, well-balanced meal. Of particular note, the weekly exercise program helps to minimize the decline of muscle tone and strength and allows individuals to remain physically able to provide for themselves as long as possible.

Y.E.S (Young Energetic Seniors)
The Y.E.S. group is a social organization for individuals that seek to remain vibrant and socially active in the community. An array of programs are offered weekly including bingo, card playing, current events groups, and exercises taught by a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor.

Every other Monday at the Jewish Community Center, adjacent to the Home, Y.E.S. members meet for programs and to share lunch together. Entertainment and educational sessions are offered weekly following lunch and a good time is always had by all.

For those requiring transportation, accommodations can be made for a nominal fee. In addition, a nurse is available to assist with minor health questions and concerns.
Walk-In Drop-In Program
Members of Y.E.S. also enjoy a less formal Thursday program called Walk-In Drop-In. Through this program, day trips are organized to area museums, parks, historical sites and casinos. In addition, mystery trips always draw a big crowd as participants eagerly await their destination. Again, for those requiring transportation, accommodations can be made for a nominal fee.

For more information about Y.E.S. and the Walk-In Drop-In programs, please contact our Director of Activities and Outreach Programs.

VISIONS
VISIONS was created for active retirees to whom age is just a number and who are vigorous and eager to pursue new adventures.

VISIONS members enjoy many diverse programs. Cultural and social events are planned throughout the year. Luncheon meetings with guest speakers and entertainment are held every other month at a local restaurant. A Mitzvah Committee plans charitable deeds for Jewish families in need, Residents at the Blumkin Home and for several organizations in the Omaha community.

Overnight and day trips are planned at various times during the year, and a quarterly newsletter -- along with additional fliers -- is sent to all participants. Annual VISIONS membership dues are nominal.

For more information about VISIONS, please contact our Director of Activities and Outreach Programs.

Lomir Redn Yiddish - Let Us Speak Yiddish: Meals on Wheels Program
High quality, Kosher meals are prepared right here at the Blumkin Home and available to the community for a fee.

An important value of this meal service is the social contact it provides the recipient. Our friendly, committed volunteers bring “care and comfort” along with the food, ensuring safety and engaging in conversation to help reduce isolation.
